Weather Alert – U.S. Consulate General Merida, Mexico
Location: Mexican States of Quintana Roo and Yucatán
Event: Tropical Storm Zeta is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Yucatán Peninsula on Monday night, October 26. Mexico has issued a hurricane warning for Zeta in the Yucatan Peninsula from Tulum to Rio Lagartos, including Cozumel. Heavy rains and strong winds are expected. Water levels could be one to three feet higher than normal tide levels, causing a dangerous storm surge when the storm makes landfall.
Actions to Take:
- Monitor the local news for updates, follow directions from local officials, and in case of emergency call 911.
- Monitor the U.S. National Hurricane Center, the Mexican National Meteorological Service (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional), and the Mexican Civil Protection Agency (Protección Civil) for updates on storm activity and emergency response.
