Weather Alert: Tropical Storm Otis

Location: Guerrero, Oaxaca

Event: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that Tropical Storm Otis is projected to cause heavy rainfall and produce flash and urban flooding, along with mudslides in areas of higher terrain. The Government of Mexico has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Oaxaca and Guerrero.  U.S. citizens in the impacted areas should monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Otis.

Actions to Take:

·        Monitor local media for updates, follow directions from local officials, and in case of emergency, call 911.

·        Be prepared to seek shelter.

·        Monitor theNational Hurricane Centerand theMexican National Meteorological Service (ServicioMeteorológico Nacional) for updates on storm activity and emergency response.

·        Both during and after the storm, keep loved ones advised of your location and well-being via phone, text, and social media.

·        Visit theDepartment of State’s Hurricanes, Typhoons, and Cyclones pageformore information.
