Members of International Organizations

To qualify for a G visa the individual concerned must be entering the United States on official duty.

  • Members of a permanent mission of a recognized government to an international organization are eligible for G-1 visas.
  • Representatives of a recognized government traveling to the United States temporarily to attend meetings of a designated international organization are eligible for G-2 visas.
  • Representatives of non-recognized or non-member governments are eligible for G-3 visas.
  • Individuals who are proceeding to the United States to assume an appointment at a designated international organization, including the United Nations, are eligible for G-4 visas.

All official visa classifications (e.g., A, G, C-3, NATO) are fee exempt.

G1: Permanent Representative to International Organization

Applicants for this visa require:

  1. The confirmation page  from the completed DS-160 application form https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/
  2. Valid Passport (at least 6 months)

  4.  Diplomatic note from the National Government including
  • Name and date of birth
  • Position and title
  • Place of assignment or visit
  • Purpose of travel
  • Brief description of duties
  • Travel date
  • Anticipated length of stay or tour of duty in the United States
  • Names, relationships, and dates of birth of any dependents and/or other members of household who will be accompanying or joining the principal applicant

 

G2: Temporary Representative to International Organization

Applicants for this visa require:

G3: Representatives of Non-Recognized/Non-Member Government to International Organization

G4: Employee of International Organization and Family

Applicants for this visa require:

Process:

Deliver the application packet to the U.S. Embassy via the Rio Danubio Entrance between 10:00 am and 12:00 PM from Monday to Friday. Indicate that you are delivering official visa applications.  All material is carefully reviewed and scanned before it is accepted.

G5: Personal Employee of G-1/2/3/4

Applicants for this visa require:

  1. A completed Pre-Notification Form for Domestic Workers emailed to DomesticWorkers@state.gov . This document must be completed three days prior to completing and submitting the DS-160 visa application.
  2. The confirmation page  from the completed DS-160 application form https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

  4. Valid Passport (at least 6 months)
  5. Original letter/employment contract from the employing international organization official describing nature of work, position, place and length of stay in U.S.
  6. Applicants are required to submit contracts in English and in their native language, signed by both the employer and the employee, including the following:
  • A work schedule (including holidays, sick days and vacation days)
  • A provision for medical insurance
  • A guarantee that the employee will be compensated at or above the Federal, State, or Prevailing Minimum Wage (whichever is greater) for an eight-hour work day
  • A guarantee the employee will not accept any other employment while working for the employer
  • A guarantee the employer will not withhold the passport, employment contract or personal effects of the employee
  • The employer’s agreement to abide by all federal, state and local laws in the United States
