U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel visited Mexico to participate in the North American Trilateral Defense Ministerial talks hosted by the Government of Mexico and with the participation of Canada’s Minister of National Defense Robert Nicholson. This is the second time the defense ministers from the three countries have met for high-level consultations following the inaugural meeting held in Ottawa in March 2012. Secretary Hagel also participated in a wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial for the 201 Air Squadron located in Chapultepec Park. The 201st Squadron was part of the Mexican Expeditionary Air Force that aided the Allied war effort during World War II. The squadron was attached to the 58th Fighter Group of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during the liberation of the Philippine island of Luzon in the summer of 1945.
