The United States Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez was pleased to welcome U.S. Representative Veronica Escobar, from Texas’ 16th Congressional District, on January 26 for constructive conversations about regional economic prosperity; cross-border security; and legal, safe, and orderly migration pathways.

Rep. Escobar toured the Consulate’s facilities, which include the world’s largest immigrant visa operation.  She commended the Consulate’s efforts to assist the roughly 200,000 U.S. citizens who live in the state of Chihuahua.  Her visit highlighted the Consulate’s essential role in reuniting families and facilitating lawful migration through the issuance of more than 85,000 immigrant visas per year.

Rep. Escobar said, “The United States Consulate in Ciudad Juarez is one of the busiest consulates in the world.  I was honored to spend time with the dedicated team there today to discuss their outstanding work for U.S. Citizens in Chihuahua, the challenges facing our Borderland and the incredible opportunities available to us as binational partners.  I look forward to continuing this important partnership to help our binational region.”

Rep. Escobar’s visit also underscores the importance of regular collaboration between U.S. legislators and the five U.S. consulates on the U.S.-Mexico border to address the complex challenges and opportunities inherent in cross-border relations.  The Consulate fosters law enforcement cooperation among agencies on both sides of the border, strengthens judicial systems, and promotes the rule of law, contributing to the safety and security of this dynamic border region.  Additionally, the Consulate actively works to increase cross-border economic ties, strengthen cooperation on environmental issues, and boost the number of U.S. students in Mexico and Mexican students in the United States.  Helping tomorrow’s leaders gain a deeper understanding of cross-border relations can only foster continued growth and cooperation between the United States and Mexico.

Consul General Eric S. Cohan expressed appreciation, stating, “We deeply value these interactions with members of Congress.  Representative Escobar’s dedication to understanding and addressing the complexities of cross-border relations contributes significantly to the ongoing dialogue on U.S.-Mexico relations.”
