There is a courier fee of $8.00 U.S. dollars per document, payable at the DHL counter at 2050 Lopez Mateos street in Juarez, Chihuahua; this payment is made after your passport is approved. Additional instructions will be given to you by the approving Consular Officer.

Your U.S. Passport, U.S. Passport Card, and/or U.S. Consular Report of Birth Abroad will be delivered by FedEx. They accept credit card payments (VISA or Mastercard) or Mexican pesos (no U.S. dollars accepted). At the end of your appointment with us, stop by the FedEx desk in our waiting room to complete your delivery service. The cost of the service varies depending on your delivery area and ranges from MXP $89.00 to MXP $268.00. Regular delivery time frame is 3 to 5 business days. FedEx does not deliver to the United States. Customers may start tracking their shipment at least two weeks after your application’s approval. After your interview, please visit a DHL branch to pay for the delivery of your U.S passport, U. S. passport card, and/or Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA). In Hermosillo, the closest DHL office to the U.S. Consulate is located on Blvd Rosales and Monterrey s/n; in Mazatlan, the DHL branch is located three blocks from the Consular Agency on Av Camaron Sabalo 310 Local 3. The cost ranges between $200 to $320 Mexican pesos per shipment and DHL will provide you with a tracking number. You can track your shipment through DHL’s website at www.dhl.com. You can rquest your delivery of U.S. passport, U.S. passport card, and/or Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) at home or any of the DHL branch office you designate.

The U.S. Consulate in Matamoros uses DHL and UPS to return U.S. passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad to applicants. It is the applicant’s responsibility to bring a DHL or UPS envelope with tracking number to the appointment.

The applicant should be both the sender and receiver on the envelope.

We encourage you to note your tracking number before you leave your appointment and sign up for DHL or UPS’s notification services to alert you when your U.S. passport or Consular Report of Birth Abroad are shipped.

Applicants can use the DHL or UPS online payment service or go to any DHL or UPS office location. You simply need to obtain a DHL or UPS envelope and a label with a tracking number. You should discuss with the DHL or UPS agent about pick-up options in your community (either directly to your home or a nearby location). DHL or UPS may require customers to pick-up the package at their nearest DHL or UPS location if the address is too remote.

FedEx and UPS offer pre-paid envelope services at their locations in Merida, Cancun, and Playa del Carmen. This service is available Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Please find detailed instructions here. The Consular Agencies in Cancun and Playa del Carmen will direct you to the available FedEx and UPS locations when you make your appointment.

Applicants who apply for a passport book, passport card, or Consular Report of Birth Abroad at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City will have their document(s) sent to them via the courier service DHL. After an applicant’s appointment at the Embassy is finished, applicants must purchase a waybill from the DHL representative located on site at the Embassy. Applicants at the Acapulco, Oaxaca, and San Miguel de Allende Consular Agencies must also purchase a waybill from DHL following their appointment at the agency. Please follow the consular officers’ instructions closely in order to receive your document(s) in a timely manner.

In most cases, all original documents submitted by the applicant in support of their application will be returned at the conclusion of their interview.  Previous passports will generally be cancelled and returned to the applicant.  New passports will be delivered via a courier service, Pakmail, for a nominal cost in approximately three to four weeks to an address within Mexico as indicated on the application.  The use of the delivery service is required for all passport cases. Please note that Pakmail only accepts payments in cash and in pesos.

Applicants for passport books, cards and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) may pick their documents up at the U.S. Consulate in Nogales on the date that the Consular Officer indicates at the end of the interview.  However, if an applicant prefers to have the citizenship document(s) mailed, the applicant can bring in a pre-paid, self-addressed courier service envelope (DHL, FedEx, UPS, etc.).  As soon as the Consulate receives the citizenship document(s), they will be placed into that envelope and sent via the courier service the applicant has selected.

Passports normally arrive in one to three weeks. The Consulate General and Consular Agency in Piedras Negras do not provide courier service for passports. You will receive an e-mail or phone-call when your passport is ready, after which you must return to the office in which you applied during regular business hours to pick-up the document. No appointment is necessary.

Applicants over 16 years of age may pick up the passport personally or designate in writing another person to pick it up on their behalf. Minor children under age 16 do not have to appear to pick up their passport books and/or passport cards; a parent or designee may pick it up on their behalf. Please bring this letter along and, if you are a parent or designee, an official photo ID as well.

The use of DHL is required for all Passport and Consular Report of Birth Abroad documents. At this time, DHL only accepts credit/debit card payments or local cash (no U.S. cash accepted).

The cost per service of shipping per document:

  • Domestic delivery is $ 251 m.n. local currency
  • Delivery to the U.S. is $29 U.S. dollars
  • Domestic delivery with optional insurance is $29 U.S. dollars
