Mexico City, March 14, 2022 – “The United States and Mexico are aligned to create an economic powerhouse in North America. As part of that effort, the United States and Mexico have the potential to lead the world in clean energy. The automotive industry illustrates this potential.

“At my request, the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) developed and recently presented its report ‘Transition to Electromobility in Mexico’ which details the current status and the vision of the automotive industry in the face of the challenge posed by climate change. Their vision includes the best technologies for electro mobility that extend to passenger and logistic transportation to public and private compact vehicles.

“U.S. automotive companies in Mexico are already engaged in such transition. Last week I visited the General Motors plant in Silao, Guanajuato, where production will soon begin on clean energy trucks, running entirely on electricity. It complements their $1 billion dollar investment at their Ramos Arizpe Plant in Coahuila for electric vehicle production by 2023. Likewise, I will visit the Ford Plant in Cuatitlán Izcalli where 77,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles, all of which are 100-percent electric, are produced annually.

“We support AMIA’s efforts to facilitate the transition of Mexico’s vehicle fleet to electric-based cars that would eventually replace internal combustion engine vehicles to fulfill our shared goal of a brilliant future for the North American region.”
