Security Alert — U.S. Consulate General Ciudad Juarez (February 5, 2019)

Location:  Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua City, Mexico

Event:  This is an update to the January 18 Security Alert.  U.S. government employees are again permitted to visit police stations and other law enforcement facilities within the city of Chihuahua and Ciudad Juarez to conduct official business.  Both employees and U.S. citizens should nonetheless remain alert to the ongoing potential for violence by organized crime groups against police and law enforcement entities.

Actions to Take:

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Use caution when driving in heavy traffic or at night.
  • Drive with your doors locked and windows up.
  • Be prepared to take alternative routes between home and work and other frequent locations.
