The NBA Global Games brought the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets to Mexico City for a regular season game on November 12. Through NBA Cares, the professional athletes provided a basketball clinic to female basketball players from Tarahumara, Chihuahua and Special Olympic athletes.
Chargé d’Affairs Laura Dogu and the Embassy’s Sports Diplomacy Committee accompanied 10 students from Federica M Bonilla high school in Puebla to the Minnesota Timberwolves vs. the Houston Rockets on November 12 at the Mexico City Arena. These young basketball players got to attend a regular season NBA game and cheer on basketball stars like Dwight Howard of the Rockets, who, after scoring 22 points, helped the Rockets win 113-101.
This year the NBA has 101 international players from foreign countries and territories, more than any previous year.
