Message from President Joseph Biden – Mexican Independence Day
3 MINUTE READ
September 16, 2021

Dear Mr. President:

On behalf of the government and people of the United States of America, I congratulate Mexico and its people as you celebrate 200 years of independence.  On this occasion, we join you in remembering Mexico’s road to independence, and reflect on the long and shared history of our two countries.

Mexico is one of our most valued partners.  Together, we are able to promote our many mutual interests and cooperate to address shared challenges.  In the last year, our nations bolstered trade and investment through the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or T-MEC; addressed irregular migration at the border; and tackled public health and economic crises that have stemmed from the COVID-19 pandemic.  I look forward to furthering these successes in the coming year and strengthening our resilience in the face of global challenges.

Having reaffirmed our shared priorities during a virtual bilateral meeting in March and Vice President Harris’ visit in June, I am confident that through our close partnership and collaboration, we can advance security and prosperity in our region.  Please accept my best wishes and congratulations on the anniversary of Mexico’s independence.

Sincerely,

Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

To the Honorable

Lic. Andrés Manuel López Obrador,

President of the United Mexican States,

Mexico City, Mexico.
