Joint Statement from Ambassadors and UN Human Rights in Mexico in Support of LGBTI Pride Parade

Mexico City, June 22, 2017 – “In our countries in Mexico and in the world we are convinced that all individuals and all families must be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity. We take very seriously our role as defenders of equality of human rights for all and we are thrilled to join hundreds of our chanceries’ colleagues, their families, and thousands of families from across Mexico in the Pride Parade this Saturday in Mexico City. This year’s theme is ‘Respect my family, my liberty, my life.’ It highlights the positive power of family in all its wonderful expressions. Saturday will be a day to celebrate the role of the family, the strength of community and the importance of respecting diversity. It is a celebration we will gladly join. The fifteen embassies and the U.N. Human Rights Representative hope to see you there on June 24th to show support and solidarity with the LGBTI community in Mexico.”
