Event:  Mexico  COVID-19 Update (April 1, 2020) 

The Mexican government declared a national health emergency on March 30 and imposed restrictions on non-essential activities in the public, private, and social sectors until April 30.  Essential activities include medical services and supplies, public safety, fundamental economic functions, government social programs, and critical infrastructure.  Schools in Mexico are also closed until April 30.  For more details and for information on state and municipal restrictions, please visit our COVID-19 webpage.

 

The Department of State issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19 on March 19, advising U.S. citizens who normally reside in the United States to return home while commercial departure options remain available, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.  Please watch Ambassador Christopher Landau’s March 31 Virtual Town Hall on the Embassy’s Facebook page to learn about other recommendation for U.S. citizens in Mexico.
