“Free the Press” Seminars for Journalists

The U.S. Consulates General in Monterrey, Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo launched a series of virtual seminars entitled “Free the Press” for journalists on topics of professional development offered by U.S. experts. The May 13 inaugural seminar on new media trends featured media expert Janine Warner from California. Ms. Warner addressed over 140 distinguished journalists from Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo Leon, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas. In Monterrey, following the session, Consul General Timothy-Zúñiga-Brown hosted a reception to celebrate World Press Freedom Day. With a toast, U.S. Consul General in Monterrey, Timothy Zúñiga-Brown, said, “Like you, we at the consulate recognize the fundamental right to press freedom, we take a moment to assess the state of freedom of the press and pay tribute to journalists, editors, cameramen, photographers, and staff who risk their lives in defense of this important line of work.”
