Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James B. Comey made his first visit to Mexico

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James B. Comey made his first visit to Mexico as Director to meet with Mexico’s Secretary of Governance, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong and Attorney General Murillo Karam to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues including kidnapping, fugitives and cyber-crimes. In his meetings with SEGOB and PGR, the Director was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne. In both meetings they discussed the importance of information sharing to help counter criminals and criminal organizations.

The visit by Director Comey is another indication of the U.S. Department of Justice’s efforts to build trust and develop relationships through close coordination between law enforcement agencies. Last year U.S.-Mexico information sharing led to the arrest by Mexican police one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives who was living near Cancun.
