In its fifth year, Jóvenes en Acción is an example of a successful private/public partnership run jointly by the U.S. and Mexican governments. During the Jóvenes farewell reception, Chargé Laura Dogu shared, “Jóvenes en Acción is a very unique program – one designed to help each of you to live up to the potential that you have demonstrated in the application process. On July 12, 102 high school students from 16 Mexican states departed for a four-week trip to the United States, where they will begin a yearlong journey to make a positive impact in their communities through team-based projects.
In addition to offering participants a firsthand encounter with American culture, the program helps them develop their English language skills and leadership abilities, gives them an opportunity to meet U.S. and Mexican government officials and with exchange students from other parts of the world, and teaches them how to plan and carry out a community service project. If interested in participating, watch for applications for next year in early 2015.
