Embassy Promotes Lab-to-Market Innovation in Mexico with I-Corps Program

In partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF), the U.S.-Mexico Foundation for Science (FUMEC), the Mexican Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT), and other private and public sector partners, the Embassy launched the Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Pilot Program in Mexico. The I-Corps Program was created by NSF to support academic researchers who are seeking to commercialize their technology by using a market validation program. The goal is to train scientists to think like entrepreneurs and to facilitate the creation of new tech startups. NSF has set up I-Corps programs in cities throughout the United States but the pilot program in Mexico was the first time the program was implemented abroad. In total, 15 teams made up of 60 Mexican scientists, PhD students, engineers, and business mentors participated in the Mexico program and some are now in the process of creating companies to market products.
