Announcement: Personal security when visiting the U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez

Criminal activity remains an issue throughout the state of Chihuahua and its major cities including Ciudad Juarez.  Visitors to the Consulate and the various Applicant Service Centers should exercise caution in all areas.  Street crime, ranging from pick-pocketing to armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, and extortion are serious problems.  For a more detailed description of the security situation in Ciudad Juarez please review the Department of State’s Travel Warning.

If you have an appointment at the Consulate, please arrive no sooner than 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Due to security regulations and space restrictions we are unable to accommodate family members, lawyers or friends of applicants within the Consulate waiting areas.  To reduce the risk of fraud or theft, the Consulate recommends that cash not be used to pay for visa services but rather one of the acceptable payment options (PDF 73KB).

If you received your visa package and found incorrect information, please follow the steps below to send back your passport and visa package via DHL courier. Your visa will be corrected and returned to you via DHL courier.

  1. Visit https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-mx/iv.
  2. Click “Sign In” and access your account.
  3. In the Applicant Summary Page, click “Consular Section Instructed me to send more documents.”
  4. Click “Send Request.”
  5. You will receive and email once the request to submit documents has been approved. Upon receipt, click Home.
  6. The Current Status should be “Send Documents.” Click Continue.
  7. Select the Consular Section entered in DS-160 application.
  8. Print the confirmation page for DHL delivery.

Please submit only your visa packet and passport. Please indicate in a short note the information on your visa that requires correction. If you cannot access the website, you can call our information center (at any of the numbers provided at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-MX/iv/information/contact_us) and tell the agent that you need to submit additional information by courier.

IMPORTANT: You should review the status of your documents sent to the Consulate and the delivery of your visa through https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-mx/iv.

It is your responsibility to track the delivery of your documents and the arrival of your visa packet through the DHL courier service. If not, the delivery of documents or visa may be delayed.

If you are inquiring about the status of your waiver application, please contact U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) at cdj.uscis@dhs.gov.

If you received your BCC Visa Card or Passport with an MRV (Machine Readable Visa) and found incorrect information, please follow the steps below either to send back your Passport with the MRV or your BCC Visa Card with your birth certificate via DHL Courier.  Your visa will be corrected and returned to you via DHL courier.

  1. Visit https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-mx/niv.
  2. Click “Sign In” and access your account.
  3. In the applicant summary page click in continue.
  4. Click in Consular Section instructed me to send more documents.
  5. Click in Send Request.
  6. Your request will be approved. Click in OK and Continue.
  7. Click In Send Documents.
  8. Select the Consular Section you entered on the DS-160 application.
  9. Click Submit.
  10. Print the Courier-In authorization certificate.

Public inquiries regarding visa denials, administrative processing or American Citizen Services should be directed to our online public inquiry form. This form should not be used to request general information, which can be obtained by browsing this website or calling our call center at the numbers listed above under Visa Information/Appointments.  This form should not be used to request the status of a pending I-601 waiver application or for an explanation of a denied waiver application.

If you have received a notice that your I-601 waiver has been approved but have not been contacted by the Department of State to continue with the immigrant visa process, please be aware that we have not yet received your waiver approval from USCIS. Your file is likely located with the USCIS office in Ciudad Juarez, who may be contacted via mail. The Department of State will have no additional information, and we will be unable to continue processing the case, until we receive the file from USCIS. Unfortunately, USCIS is unable to provide us with an estimated processing time. Once we have received the file from USCIS, we will contact the applicant with instructions on how to proceed with the processing of the case.
