Sports Envoy Program

Sports Envoy

The Sports Envoy Program is comprised of elite American athletes, coaches, and educators who travel abroad on short-term (7-10 day) sports exchanges. Sports Envoy programs are designed to reach underserved communities, inspire youth and coaches alike, with stories of resilience, teamwork, and education. Sports Envoys lead sports clinics, speak at universities, and meet with senior level officials to discuss the role of sport in improving individual lives and transforming societies.

U.S. Embassy Mexico partners with Mexican NGOs, universities, sports leagues, and government entities to tackle community challenges using the universal language of sport to change lives, transform communities, and inspire the world. Organizations interested in implementing a Sports Envoy must submit a program proposal and budget.

Sports Visitors Program

The Sports Visitor Program uses sports to engage target audiences to support U.S. foreign policy goals while promoting American values both on and off the field.  Among other policy goals, programs promote leadership and conflict resolution skills and a deeper understanding of U.S. diversity and our country’s political, economic, social, and cultural perspectives.  The program offers a tailored way to engage priority audiences, especially emerging voices and traditionally underserved communities, those who do not speak English, and those targeted by extremist propaganda.
