Distinguished Humphrey Fellows should demonstrate a strong commitment to serve as leaders in advancing the public good and be well-positioned professionally to have a near term impact on policy formulation within their professional fields. This invitation-only program’s goal is to facilitate leadership development, multilateral collaboration, and cooperation on shared global challenges.

The Humphrey Program provides a year of professional enrichment in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries undergoing development or political transition. Humphrey Fellows prepare individual program plans for their professional development, detailing their goals and objectives for the year, including courses, seminars, special projects, and professional and community activities.
The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program and there are 1958 Mexican alumni. The invitation-only IVLP provides firsthand knowledge about U.S. society, culture, and politics, while cultivating lasting relationships. Participants typically visit four U.S. communities over three weeks, and projects vary by theme and requests from U.S. Embassies around the world. By connecting current and emerging foreign leaders with their American counterparts, IVLP fosters lasting relationships and helps strengthen U.S. engagement with countries around the world.
