Location: Gateway International Bridge Port of Entry, Matamoros, Mexico
Event: U.S. Consulate General Matamoros advises U.S. citizens of a continuing protest at the Gateway International Bridge Port of Entry in Matamoros, Mexico. At approximately 1:00 a.m. on October 10, 2019, an estimated 500 individuals approached the bridge, resulting in the temporary closure of the Port of Entry. Approximately 50-100 protesters remain in the area. There have been no reports of violence.
Gateway Bridge remains closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic in both directions. The other two Ports of Entry in Matamoros, Brownsville and Matamoros Bridge and Veteran’s International Bridge, remain open.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the area of Gateway International Bridge until operations normalize.
- Monitor the CBP website for updates on border wait times and operations.
- Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Monitor local media for other updates.
