Consul Sonya Tsiros congratulates Mexican Students Traveling to the United States as part of the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Initiative

More than 515 students and teachers from the Yucatan Peninsula received scholarships to study English as part of the 100,000 Strong in the Americas and “Proyecta Cien Mil” Initiatives, both part of Presidents Obama and Peña Nieto’s plans to increase student exchanges between the United States and Mexico.

Consul General Sonya Tsiros congratulated 103 students and teachers from the Technological Metropolitan University in Merida (Universidad Tecnologica Metropolitana) on a farewell ceremony together with University Director Mr. Ariel Aldecua.   Ms. Tsiros said  “Take advantage of this experience.  Learning English will open the door to study in the United States and to better job opportunities.”

The U.S. Consulate General in Merida, has issued more than 350 student visas in connection with Proyecta Cien Mil’s scholarship to program to study English for one month in the United States.
