Amy Scanlon assumed duties as Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara in August 2023. A career Senior Foreign Service Officer, she most recently served as the Deputy Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. Amy has also served as Deputy Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Greece, Political Officer and Staff Aide at the U.S. Embassy in Russia, and Political and Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Mozambique.
In Washington, she worked as a special assistant to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, as a special assistant to Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, as a Watch Officer in the State Department’s Operations Center, and as a Political/Military Officer on the Pakistan Desk. She also served as the Deputy Director of the Orientation Division at the Foreign Service Institute, overseeing the orientation of all new State Department employees.
Amy joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 2001. She holds a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and an M.S.W. in Clinical Social Work from Boston College. She also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Belize. Amy has studied Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Russian, and Greek. She has one child.
