Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs Carl Risch led the U.S. delegation in a collaborative and productive bilateral Consular Dialogue with the government of Mexico Friday, November 17, 2017. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General for the Protection of Mexicans Abroad Jacob Prado led the Mexican delegation. The United States and Mexico focused on strengthening joint efforts to protect our citizens and shared border and to facilitate legitimate travel. Participants also discussed documenting and assisting dual nationals, consular notification and access obligations, the intercountry adoption process, fraud prevention, and sharing best practices for crisis management.
Assistant Secretary Risch visited the U.S. Consulate General in Monterrey November 15 and the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City November 16 to highlight consular services available to U.S. and Mexican citizens. He focused on efforts to assist and document U.S. citizens in Mexico and promote legitimate travel to the United States.
