The Consulate has learned from Mexican government sources that they are conducting law enforcement operations in the city of Villa Ahumada, which is on Highway 45, the main route between Ciudad Juarez and the state capital in Chihuahua City. Similar operations are reportedly underway in Cuauhtemoc and other towns in the region. The Consulate recommends U.S. citizens follow news sources for developments regarding these operations. The Consulate has prohibited U.S. Government personnel from traveling to or through Villa Ahumada until these operations have ended.
We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Mexico enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program(STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
