Ambassador Jacobson’s Remarks on World Press Freedom Day

This is the last World Press Freedom Day I spend as Ambassador to Mexico. It has been an honor to get to know so many brave Mexican journalists who every day perform a duty that empowers society and strengthens democracy. I am deeply sorry for so many lives lost to those who think that they could kill the truth by murdering a journalist. I hope each and every case of attack against free speech is investigated and punished to the full extent of the law. Know that the United States government will forever remain an ally of freedom of speech.
