Maceo Montoya
Maceo Montoya was raised in a family of Chicano artists and writers. He is the son of renowned painter Malaquías Montoya, brother of poet Andrés Montoya, and nephew of the late legendary poet José Montoya. While destined to pursue a career in visual arts or language arts, Maceo forged his own path as both an artist and writer. Maceo noted that visual art appeals to him more emotionally and physically, whereas the written word provided an intellectual understanding. Through his art, he assumes a responsibility to represent Chicano and Chicana stories – making them visible and highlighting their importance.
