Francisco Bautista
Francisco Bautista, a fourth-generation master weaver, was born in the town of Teotitlán del Valle in Oaxaca, Mexico. Learning to weave from his father and grandfather, Bautista began helping his dad wind his bobbins when he was approximately seven or eight years of age. Most of his work uses traditional Zapotec symbols. He dyes all his yarns using mostly dyes from plants and insects. As a member of the Portland Handweavers Guild, he has made demonstrations of Zapotec weaving at several fairs and shows, including Art in the Pearl.
